Environmental History

The purpose of the course is to foster an in depth appreciation of the interaction between people and their environment in an historical perspective and the limitations placed on humankind by the natural environment. The course will examine how people have treated and shaped their environment, and changed and developed their ideas about the natural world over time.

The School of Geography has established strengths in the field of Environmental History and strong collaborative links with the School of History and Art History with whom the course is jointly taught. The degree integrates staff research interests in the UK, Europe, Asia, Australia and the Americas with teaching and learning to provide a potential gateway to research degrees and a wide range of employment opportunities.
