The team

The team responsible for delivering the project:

  • Project Director - Professor Colin Snape
  • Professor Colin SnapeProfessor Colin Snape (FRSE) has been involved in fuel science and technology for 30 years and his wide ranging research interests cover novel adsorbents for CO2 capture both in combustion and gasification and developing high capacity Hg adsorbents while continuing the research on oil exploration and carbonisation of coal. He has been instrumental in establishing Nottingham as an internationally recognized centre for fossil energy. He currently directs the Energy Technologies Research Institute (ETRI) which coordinates all energy research at the University and was instrumental in the winning bid by the Midlands Energy Consortium (MEC), comprising Birmingham, Loughborough and Nottingham, to host the UK Energy Technologies Institute. The MEC has been successful in securing £3M funding from HEFCE (SDF award) to establish the Midlands Energy Graduate School which is a groundbreaking collaboration providing a common framework to support all energy PGR at the tree Universities. He is the first director of MEGS and also the director of the recently announced EngD Centre (£6M EPSRC award) in “Efficient Power from Fossil Energy and Carbon Capture Technologies (EPFECCT)”. He has over 50 peer reviewed publications in fuel science and successfully supervised over 30 Ph.D students and won the Henry H. Storch Award in 2006 from the American Chemical Society for lifelong achievement in fuel science.
