This website was substantially redesigned by Fred Riley, SONET organiser, in the first quarter of 2004, mainly to allow for the addition of substantial new content, in particular e-learning resources and Reusable Learning Objects (RLOs). Also, the new design is fully conformant with international standards on markup and accessibility, and conforms to the University of Nottingham 'corporate image'. Comments on the new design, and suggestions for improvement, are very welcome - please contact the SONET organiser.
This site has been carefully designed to be fully accessible to users with disabilities, in accordance with the guidelines laid down by the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). The site templates have been validated by accessibility tools (such as A-Prompt), and conform to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) to level AA. The site templates have also been tested in the text-only browser Lynx.
No layout tables are used on the site. The navigation system consists of item lists contained in layers, positionally-controlled by Cascading Stylesheets (CSS). The use of Javascript is kept to a minimum, and used only for non-essential functions.
If you come across any page which isn't accessible, please contact the SONET organiser.
Every effort has been made to ensure that the site is completely conformant with W3C standards. Each page is marked up in XHTML 1.0 and the stylesheets are validated as conformant with CSS2.
This site is viewable in any graphical browser which renders CSS2 stylesheets, and in text-only browsers such as Lynx. It was tested using Mozilla 1.5 and Microsoft Internet Explorer 6. 'Version 4' browsers, such as IE4 or Netscape 4.x, which have patchy or non-existent support for stylesheets, won't render the site pages as will modern CSS-conformant browsers, but the site should still be usable in these older browsers. If you have any problems using this site with your browser, please contact the SONET organiser, with the following details:
