Catalogs

Full GNS sample

The following catalogs contain the full GNS sample obtained by extracting sources with Sextractor in the 60 GNS pointings. Stars and obvious spurious dertections are removed from the catalog. All catalogs are in the NICMOS world coordinate system. Galaxies in the GOODS-North field however have a 0.32 arcsec offset in declination to facilitate matching with the ACS v2.0 catalog, which has a known offset of dec(v2) - dec(v1) = -0.32 arcsec = -0.0000889 degrees (see: http://archive.stsci.edu/pub/hlsp/goods/catalog_r2/h_r2.0z_readme.html)

SExtractor catalog:
This catalog contains the output parameters of the source extraction procedure with SExtractor in the NICMOS H band images. The columns are: galaxy ID, GNS field number, runnnig number in each field, world coordinates, flux, flux error, H band magnitude and class_star parameter.

Photometric catalog:
This catalog contains galaxy world coordinates, BVIzH photometry, spectroscopic and photometric redshifts, stellar masses, rest-frame (U-B) colours and UBV absolute magnitudes. The optical photometry is obtained by matching our H band catalog to the ACS photometry in the GOODS field with a 2 arcsec search radius. Spectroscopic redshifts are taken from Barger+08 and Wuyts+08. Photometric redshifts are measured with the BVIzH photometry using the HYPERZ photometric redshift code reaching an accuracy of Δ z / (1+z) = 0.06. Stellar masses and rest-frame colours are obtained by fitting model galaxy SEDs to the BVIzH photometry, using Bruzual & Charlot (2003) models with an exponentially declining star formation history and a Chabrier IMF.

Local galaxy densities:
This catalog contains the measures of local galaxy density, using all galaxies down to the stellar mass completeness limit of log M* = 9.5 M_sun at z=3. The local density is measured by counting galaxies within a fixed aperture of 1 Mpc radius centred on each galaxy (log(1+ρ)) and by measuring the distance to the 3rd, 5th and 7th nearest neighbour (log(1+δ)) within a redshift slice of Δ z = +/-0.25. All values are normalized by the median in each redshift slice and logarithmic.

Star formation rates:
This catalog contains the star formation rates of all GNS galaxies down to log M*=9.5 M_sun between 1.5 < z < 3. The SFRs are measured from the K-corrected z band flux (rest-frame UV flux at λ = 2800 A) following the Kennicutt+98 law. The dust-correction is estimated from the (B-z) colour corresponding to the rest-frame UV slope following Daddi+04.

Massive galaxy sample

The following catalogs include the original selection of massive galaxies (log M* > 11 M_sun) which were targeted by the GNS. They were initially selected by various colour selection techniques to be in the redshift range of approximately 1.7 < z < 3. Their new stellar masses measured using the new photometric redshifts might slightly vary and might lead to a slightly different selection of massive galaxies. The catalogs below are in the ACS wcs system.

Original selection catalog(s):
The following catalogs contain the primary selections of massive galaxies according to their colours. There are 3 subsamples:

  in the GOODS-South field download here
DRGs (Papovich+06)

IEROs (Yan+04)

Morphological catalog(s):
This catalog contains the morphological parameters of the massive galaxy subset measured by Buitrago+08 by fitting a 2D Sersic model to the galaxy images with GALFIT. The columns include galaxy sizes in arcsec and kpc, Sersic indices, axis ratio, position angle, and mean and effective surface brightness.

More morphological parameters are available in the next catalog, including the CAS parameters (Concentration, Asymmetry, clumpinesS), M20, Gini and the Petrosian radius.

Original massive galaxy catalog matched to the GNS catalog:
This catalog contains the morphological parameters as above plus the GNS photometry, as well as GNS ID numbers and previously used IDs to facilitate a comparison between the full GNS sample and the original massive galaxy selection. new photometric redshifts (spectroscopic if available), new stellar masses, (U-B) colours, local densities, SFRs, and effective radii of the subset of 81 galaxies with stellar masses above log M* = 11 M_sun.

New measurements catalog:
This catalog contains the new photometric redshifts (spectroscopic if available), new stellar masses, (U-B) colours, local densities, SFRs, and effective radii of the original massive galaxy selection. The objects are listed with the GNS ID number and are in the NICMOS world coordinate system.
