Alex is Deputy Director of Communications, Advocacy and Global Affairs at the University of Nottingham. He is responsible for global stakeholder engagement and reputation across the University's campuses in the UK, China and Malaysia. Within the Division of Communications and Advocacy, he manages the Media Team, Internal and Student Communications and the Political and Public Affairs Unit. He is currently also the Interim Director for the University of Nottingham Institute for Policy and Engagement, a new initiative to provide the University research community with specialist support for global policy impact, public engagement and to provide a platform for the University's leading research communicators to engage with partners, peers and the public across the world. Alex is responsible for the University's strategic reputation and relationship management, higher education policy and supporting the Vice-Chancellor and University Executive Board.
Alex is currently the Chair of the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education in Europe's Annual Conference until 2019, and prior to moving to Nottingham, he established the national political affairs and policy function at the University of Warwick, where he was responsible for developing relationships between the university and policy-makers in Westminster, Whitehall and the wider policy community, as well as public engagement and Festivals.
Alex has held roles in public affairs at Warwick; as the Policy and Parliamentary adviser for the mission-group, University Alliance; as the Business Development Manager for the University of Sheffield's Public Services Academy and in Economic Policy for Sheffield City Council. He has an MA in Global Politics and Law from the University of Sheffield, where he was also an undergraduate.
