BARS 2019 takes place over four days: the conference will,

  • open at 9.30am on Thursday 25th July 2019
  • close at 15.30pm on Sunday 28th July 2019

Conference Location

We will be using the University’s East Midlands Conference Centre as the venue. for this year's BARS conference.    

This state of the art facility contains a large lecture theatre with a capacity of 400 for plenaries; multiple suites of seminar rooms within very close proximity of one another for parallel sessions; and cafés and space for socialising.  The Conference Centre is next door to the Orchard Hotel and Rutland Hall of Residence and within 5 minutes walking distance of other on-campus accommodation.  Blackwells Bookshop, cafés and other retail outfits are located in the Portland Building, within a 10 minute walk.

Accommodation

Delegates can choose ensuite rooms in either Rutland Hall of Residence or The DeVeres Orchards Hotel. All delegates, regardless of which option they choose, can also enjoy free access to the state-of-the-art gym and 25m swimming pool at the University of Nottingham's brand new David Ross Sports Village. Other facilities including a climbing wall and squash and badminton courts can also be pre-booked by guests for a small charge. Delegates also benefit from free onsite parking.

 *Bursaries: The Early Bird rate for PhD/unwaged delegates has been heavily subsidised by BARS and the School of English, University of Nottingham in order to support postgraduate and early career scholars to attend and present their work. We hope to offer some additional bursaries at a later date, depending on numbers and finances, but cannot guarantee that we will be in a position to do so. More information will be made available by 1 July 2019.
