Background
There is a growing global awareness of the size and impact of people affected with problems of skin breakdown, vascular disorders and chronic oedema. The partners involved in this initiative have been working together on research, development of practice and education in this specialist area for a number of years. A new research centre (The Centre for Skin Integrity) has been developed at the University of Nottingham within the School of Health Sciences and Medicine and has strong partnerships and an active research programme that engages with local hospital and community services and patient support groups.
This initiative also represents a truly international collaboration and a desire to build effective ways of working across and between cultures. The partnership celebrates intra-professional working and within this the global need to develop the nursing profession.
