UK-based researchers and scholars will convene in Nottingham for a closed workshop to explore the legal and policy challenges of climate-induced migration. Hosted by the University of Nottingham Human Rights Law Centre and the Nottingham Trent University Climate Justice Hub, in collaboration with the ICON•S Interest Group on Climate Change & Migration and the ESIL Interest Group on Migration and Refugee Law, the workshop is sponsored by the Socio-Legal Studies Association (SLSA).

New Policy Briefing on Informal Life Imprisonment by the Life Imprisonment Worldwide Project

Description
The briefing, co-produced with Penal Reform International, spotlights the critical yet overlooked issue of sentences that, whilst not called 'life imprisonment', can nevertheless detain a person until their death. Informal life sentences, if imposed, should be used as a last resort for the most serious crimes only, as they pose a key challenge to most criminal justice systems globally.
