The biggest Malaysian sporting event in the UK is set to return to Nottingham on Saturday 7 November.
Around 5000 athletes and spectators from more than 90 universities will come together at The University of Nottingham’s University Park and Jubilee campuses to take part in a day of sport and a celebration of Malaysian cuisine.
Since 1985, The Nottingham Malaysian Games has been organised by the University’s Nottingham Malaysian Society (NMS) with the aim of promoting sportsmanship and fostering ties between Malaysian students studying in the UK. Consistently the largest Malaysian sporting event in the UK since its inception, the Games will this year be honoured with a visit from TYT Dato Ahmad Rasidi Hazizi, High Commissioner of Malaysia to the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland.
Athletes will compete in games as diverse as football, chess, scrabble and volleyball, while traditional Malaysian games such as carrom, Batu Seremban and Dam Haji will also feature.
This year, the tournament is being held in conjunction with the Malaysian Food Festival, featuring a wide variety of vendors and a diverse range of dishes. The food festival will be held throughout the day in The Great Hall, Trent Building on University Park Campus.
The event takes place from 9am on Saturday 7 November with the final events concluded by 6pm.
