Mass Wedding 714x249

How would you feel about getting married on University Park Campus with nine other couples? At a recent mass wedding ceremony in Ningbo a number of UNNC alumni did just that.

The ceremony took place on Saturday 15 April at The University of Nottingham Ningbo Campus (UNNC) as part of celebrations to mark a decade of the organisation’s alumni association.

Mass weddings are not uncommon in China but this was the first of its kind to be held at UNNC and involving former students.

Li Wang, 25, and Shuai – known as Janet – Cheng, 28, are one of the couples who met at UNNC. Despite taking the same module and even sitting in the same classroom, they didn’t meet until after Janet’s final exam when they started chatting on the social media site, WeChat.

Janet said, ““UNNC plays such a significant role in our lives. We met the person we love at UNNC and we wanted other alumni to be the witnesses of our wedding.

“No matter what happens in the future, we will always support each other and we will always be the person nearby for each other.”

In China it’s traditional for couples to get a legal marriage certificate and then celebrate on a different day at a wedding feast. This was one of what may have been several wedding feasts for the couples. The celebrations consisted of group photos, a dance, and a speech from Associate-Provost of UNNC, Stephen Morgan.
