Card Reader Project pilot for teaching sessions

Undergraduate students in a lecture, Keighton Auditorium, University Park2 714x249

In a joint project with the Students’ Union, the University will be conducting a card-reading pilot during the Autumn Semester to help us monitor attendance in teaching sessions.

The pilot will take place across certain taught sessions in Chemistry, Politics and the Faculty of Arts. If you belong to any of these areas and your teaching sessions are going to be involved in the pilot then you will be told by your School.

The University currently collects attendance data for certain taught sessions for the purpose of course requirements, health and safety, and visa regulations for international students. We will not be collecting any additional data. The only thing we are changing is the way in which we are collecting this data.

Students involved in the pilot will be asked to swipe in with their University cards at the beginning of their teaching sessions – just like you would to enter buildings. If you forget your card, then you will be able to sign a paper register to confirm your attendance.

At the end of the project we will be collecting feedback from staff and students and comparing it to their experience using a paper sign-in system.
