Students from UoN take part in drone competition

uas-challenge-2017 714x249

A team of students from UoN is taking part in the Institution of Mechanical Engineers’ Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) challenge.

The UAS is the leading annual student competition in the aerospace sector and challenges undergraduate students to design and build a UAS while meeting specific mission objectives along the way.

Our students have been challenged to design an aircraft that could undertake a representative humanitarian aid mission. It should be capable of performing a number of tasks, including area searches, navigating waypoints, accurately dropping payloads and returning to base via a defined route.

The commercial viability of the projects is also tested through a pitch to a panel of judges.

Our team will be competing against 24 other teams from around the UK and across the globe, and the final “fly-off” for the challenge will take place in Wales on Monday 18 and Tuesday 19 June.

The University wishes the best of luck to our students.
