Two University of Nottingham students have won an international photo competition, putting a lens on their time studying abroad.
The pair each won a category in the Universitas 21 Alternative Perspectives Photo Competition. The competition, which drew entries from more than 20 universities, celebrates the life-changing global mobility experiences enjoyed by students across the network.
Zhen Yuan Liew’s image of ‘Shanghai – a city younger than us’ (taken while studying at Shanghai Jiao Tong University) earned him first place in the most online votes category.
Zhen, who studies Pharmacy, said: "U21 summer exchange programme has given me the opportunity to explore beyond my field - at SJTU, I got an exposure of public policy and city governance, which is a unique topic that isn't included in many degrees. I would definitely recommend students to participate in U21 exchange programmes, as I have personally benefited greatly for it. Thank you U21 for the experience.”
Harry Field’s image – A Horizon with Infinite Possibilities –was awarded best photo as voted by 2018 U21 annual general meeting and network meeting delegates. He took the image while studying at the University of New South Wales.
Harry, who is in his second year of an Economics degree, said: “I was inspired to enter the photo competition simply by the amazing experiences I had whilst studying in Australia. I hope that photos such as mine can inspire others to study abroad and grasp the fantastic opportunity to meet a wide variety of people from around the globe and see the world in a new way.”
