Libraries are changing: A new way to borrow books

 Library flexible loans

University of Nottingham Libraries are making changes to the library loan system as part of a major project to improve the student experience following your feedback. This will come into effect on Monday 15 April and involve the following changes.

Times
You can still borrow up to 60 items, but the length of time you can borrow them for is changing. Libraries are introducing flexible loans, meaning that books will be issued for one week unless they are in high demand in which case they will be available for two days. Books on loan will automatically renew unless someone else wants them. If that happens, you will have one week to return the book. Otherwise, you can keep the book until you no longer need it.

Fines
You will also only be fined for late books that have been requested by other people, and when you do it will be £1 per day up to a maximum of £10 per item.

Reservations
The process to reserve books will also be simplified. Rather than searching through a list when reserving a book with multiple copies, you will now simply reserve the book's title and the system will select the fastest available copy. If the book is not in your most convenient libarary, UoN Libraries will automatically transfer it for you. You will just need to make sure you collect it as soon as possible as it will only be held for two days (unless you are part-time, a distance learner, or have declared a disability, in which case you’ll have seven days).

Further information on these changes can be found on the Library Matters blog.
