Applications are invited to support the expanding activities of the IESSG, an international centre of excellence based at one of the UK’s strongest research–led universities.
The IESSG has earned global renown for its research and is housed in excellent purpose-built accommodation on Nottingham’s Jubilee campus. Further information about the IESSG is available at: http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/iessg.
The successful candidate will join the team working on one, or two, European FP7 sponsored projects PRECISIO and ENCORE, awarded through the GSA (GNSS Supervisory Authority). The PRECISIO project is developing a software defined radio GNSS receiver to meet the needs of professional GNSS infrastructure operators and users.
The IESSG’s role in this project is to help ensure that the receiver’s capabilities match the requirements of professional and scientific users, and to ensure that the receiver functions correctly in all the targeted application scenarios. ENCORE is developing a low cost, high performance Galileo receiver for agricultural and cadastral applications in Brazil, taking advantage of the novel Galileo signal characteristics.
The IESSG’s role is to contribute to the receiver performance assessment, and to validate the design through simulation. The successful candidate will be expected to take a leading role in the IESSG’s activities in these two projects, by managing the IESSG’s contributions to the corresponding work packages. In particular, the role will include a significant element of testing prototype receivers, both in simulation and in live signal environments. Candidates should be comfortable with the technical and practical expectations of this role.
Candidates should, by preference, hold a PhD or Masters degree in geomatics or GNSS related discipline, but a good honours degree will be considered. Experience within the GNSS sector, either through academic research or industry is essential.
