The EGNOS Service Definition Document for the Open service (EGNOS OS SDD) has been published by the European Commission (EC) when commissioning the EGNOS Open Service on 1st October 2009.
An open public consultation process has been recently opened on this document with the objective to ensure that the development of the EGNOS service Definition Documents takes into account the views of today’s GNSS key stakeholders. This will subsequently help towards a smooth and rapid rollout of GNSS equipments and applications integrating EGNOS capabilities and the soonest possible delivery of user benefits. The EGNOS OS SDD will ultimately:
- Improve the knowledge of the mass market GNSS users and application developers on the benefits of EGNOS services for the applications they are using or intending to use,
- Provide user’s support related to the EGNOS services, environment and service provision as well as basic information and relevant technical references for the signal in space and performance;
- Foster the development of GNSS receivers and applications using EGNOS;
- Increase manufacturers and application developer’s confidence in European GNSS programmes by the establishment of a link between the EGNOS system stakeholders, from programme manager and operator to end users.
The feedbacks received within this consultation will be used by the EC to develop improved versions of the OS SDD and to enhance the SoL SDD currently in preparation and planned to be released mid 2010.
This is an important opportunity to express your comments and suggestions to the EC for the continued development of the EGNOS Service Definition Documents. Future developments are still under consideration and open to your input.
