HSE | The Health and Safety Executive have responsibility in the regulation and enforcement of workplace health, safety and welfare. |
Manual handling | The term used for referring to tasks associated with moving objects. |
Moving and handling | The term used for referring to tasks associated with moving and handling people and when referencing legislation. |
MHOR | The legislation known as the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992. |
People | In relation to moving and handling, the term "people" may consist of terms such as "patient", "service user", "client", "customer" and "resident" used interchangably. |
Risk assessment | A process of identifying risks involved for a specific manual handling activity. |
TILE | A model of risk assessment which should be performed prior to each moving and handling activity. Specifically it focuses on considering the elements of Task, Individual, Load, Environment and their collective influence. |

This project is a collaboration between the Health E-Learning and Media (HELM) team at the University of Nottingham (School of Health Sciences) and Worksafe Training and Consultancy Ltd to deliver a series of reusable learning objects (RLOs).
