Stereotyping is attributing certain beliefs and behaviours about a group to an individual without giving adequate attention to individual difference. E.g. All Asian people are hard working and all Chinese people are good at maths.

Cultural competence is an evolving process. Eunice could be open minded and openhearted. Eunice needs to continue to communicate with Mary in a warm non-judgemental fashion so she can overcome the stereotypical response from Mary.
