Thank you for helping to change lives this year

2022 has been a tough year for students, with the cost-of-living, concerns about mental health and a shift back to campus life post-Covid. But thanks to your generous donations, talented students in need of financial assistance have been able to unlock their potential and start their university journey - a life-changing journey that would have been impossible without you.

You also helped to ensure our first ever Nottingham Ambition Giving Day was a huge success and raised much-needed funds for a range of causes. Plus, student-led Cascade projects supported by you have helped fellow students cope with the cost-of-living crisis or aid communities around the world.

None of this would have been possible without your generous support. We want to say a huge thank you to all our supporters. Discover how you have made a difference below.

Helping students realise their potential and start their university life

Thanks to your donations for the Nottingham Potential scholarship programme, 148 talented students from all backgrounds were able to say ‘yes’ to their university place this year. Your support for scholarships means bright and determined students can achieve more than they ever thought possible.

A scholarship is often so much more than just financial help. For many of our students who receive a scholarship it's a vote of confidence, peace of mind and an opportunity to make more out of their university experience.

Pulling together to help student mental health and wellbeing

This year saw us host our first ever Nottingham Ambition Giving Day to celebrate the centenary of the laying of the Trent Building foundations stone in 1922. This was your opportunity to help a new generation of students build their own foundations at the University by donating online across a 36-hour period. Thanks to your generous donations, more than £116,000 was raised for a range of worthy causes, including scholarships for disadvantaged students and medical research.

One of the key causes was mental health support at the Students’ Union. Mental health is a growing area of concern, particularly among young people, and your response proved how important the cause is to you too. Thanks to your backing, more than £14,000 was granted to Nightline, which provides a safe space for students to talk about their feelings without fear of being judged or identified. Nightline’s family of dedicated volunteers has been providing essential emotional support since 1973 and it was fantastic to see so many of you donating to such an incredibly worthy cause.

Having worked as a mental health professional, I appreciate the impact mental health issues can have upon people’s lives and the important of trusted and effective interventions. It is good to know students can access your support - Lynda Jones (Ambition Giving Day donor)

Helping students make a difference in their community and around the globe

Thanks to you, the Cascade programme continues to fund innovative and beneficial projects, with students from a range of backgrounds determined to make a positive impact. With your generous support, Cascade helps students develop their skills, social awareness and employability, while making a significant impact on communities at home and around the world.

Some highlights making a difference this year include:

  • Empowerment Through Clean Water is working to deliver drinking water to the community of Kajiado in Kenya
  • First Aid in Schools is providing potentially life-saving lessons to primary school pupils
  • Project Period is making sure no students must cope with the stigma of period poverty

Supporting our sports stars on the world stage

Athlete on running track

Your donations continue to help our athletes achieve incredible sporting success. Students and alumni have excelled on the world stage over the last 12 months, winning Commonwealth and European Universities’ titles as well as representing their countries in 16 different sports.

Nottingham’s return to live action events was triumphant as we became the leading UK university for team sport in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) competition. The BUCS League is the pinnacle of university sport, which shows the amazing achievements your support has helped to produce.

Did you know that every one of our valuable supporters are acknowleged on the university's Roll of Honour?
