Life Cycle goes big for breast cancer

Life Cycle riders excited and roaring to go- bannerOver the years, many of you will have been part of our Nottingham Life Cycle community – getting on your bike at our community day, sponsoring our Vice-Chancellor to cycle the length and breadth of the UK, or by getting the flour and eggs out for a bake sale.

Together, we have achieved something amazing – raising over £2.2 million for research and projects here at The University of Nottingham.

Thanks to you, our dedicated experts at the Children’s Brain Tumour Research Centre and in the Sir Peter Mansfield Magnetic Resonance Centre are progressing cutting-edge research into such diseases as childhood brain tumours and dementia, helping improve the lives of thousands of people. Right across campus, our talented staff continue to progress work into stroke rehabilitation, student support and palliative care, helped in great part by the generosity of donors like you.
This year is very special – it is our most ambitious Nottingham Life Cycle yet – aiming to raise £1 million for life-saving breast cancer research here at the University.

And after 5 remarkable years cycling over 5,000 miles, this is also the last time our Vice-Chancellor will be getting in the saddle to lead an endurance challenge across the four points of Britain to raise funds for this much-needed research.

We thank all of you for your support to date – and invite you to become part of our Nottingham Life Cycle 6 team by supporting our work again this year. Together, we can help change the lives of women with breast cancer around the world.

Our research

Our dedicated experts in Nottingham and Derby are leading on innovative new research to tackle the disease at all stages, including:

  • Developing the world’s first blood test to detect the disease early
  • Stop it spreading by developing new treatments
  • Treat it effectively by testing novel new drugs developed here in Nottingham

Lisa's story

Lisa cuddling with her two children cuddl

"I would love a cure for cancer"

When I was diagnosed, all I could think about were my three young children - I was determined that they wouldn't go through what I'd been through when my Mum was diagnosed with the same disease. Research into how to stop this diseases is so important - I don't want anybody else to have to go through what we've been through as a family.

Lisa, Breast Cancer patient and Mum of three.
