Vice-Chancellor's update and thanks

VC intro

What you have helped us achieve so far through Impact: The Nottingham Campaign is truly astonishing and you have my heartfelt thanks.

Realising our target of £150 million last October was a major achievement and it was a pleasure to see so many of you at our celebration events. Thanks to your unwavering generosity, we are already making good progress towards raising a further £50 million for student support and research.

With so many inspiring people in our networks, I am delighted that we are also celebrating the transformative effects that gifts of time and expertise have on our students and institution. Hundreds of people are already sharing their skills with our staff and students, and I hope many more of you will join us this year and help achieve our goal of involving 1,000 volunteers.

This August, my fellow Life Cycle riders and I will be embarking on our most challenging Nottingham Life Cycle ride yet – pedalling over 1,400 miles to the four compass points of mainland Britain to help raise £1 million for breast cancer research here at the University. I won't be tackling this extreme challenge alone and will be joined by a team of twelve riders who are all gearing up for this challenge for a lifetime! Meet the team.

It is astounding that 10,000 women die from breast cancer around the world every week; but I know that Nottingham is well-placed to make a difference.

Many of you have supported Life Cycle over the years; your generosity and fundraising creativity is humbling. Please do continue your support in whatever way you can and together, we can change this shocking statistic.

Thank you.
