The United Kingdom and Ireland Controlled Release Society 2014 (UKICRS 14) conference took place on Thursday the 10th and Friday the 11th of April at the University College Cork. ISAC was delighted to have been able to present, exhibit and support the University of Nottingham students that contributed to the event.
Dr Matthew Piggott from ISAC gave a well received talk on what the centre is, does and can offer in a commercial and academic capacity as part of a dedicated exhibitor workshop. Complementary to the symposium on the following day, ISAC presented an interactive exhibit stand with a rapid identification handheld Raman spectroscopy station, a Time-of-Flight Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (ToF-SIMS) data walkthrough and a series of surface analytical case studies.
ISAC was also delighted to see two excellent presentations from School of Pharmacy postgraduates incorporating surface analytical characterisation. Firstly the Laboratory of Biophysics and Surface Analysis' (LBSA) Hiteshri Makwana gave a talk on 'site-specific conjugation of recombinant transferrin to polymers for applications in targeted drug delivery'. Then Vanessa Rose from the division of Drug Delivery and Tissue Engineering presented her work on 'novel CRP routes to phosphonium polymethacrylates for siRNA delivery'. Hiteshri was later awarded a prize, having been voted the best talk of the symposium. The event was a great success, and Nottingham's impact is an excellent launchpad for hosting the event next Spring.
