20th September, 2008, 12-1pm, online
This online seminar was attended by some 20 NHS staff, mostly involved in staff development and e-learning, and was carried out via a phone teleconference in conjunction with Microsoft Live Meeting, enabling presentations and live demos to be visible to the audience. Chaired by Alison Wright, E-Learning Programme Manager of the NESC, the seminar was addressed by Fred Riley of SONET-ARC, and Jean Penny, Head of Learning of the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement. The notes and links below relate to Fred's talk on RLOs: what they are, how they're used, how they're produced, and their future.

Below are a few URLs as 'preparatory reading' and/or for reference during/after the seminar:
School of Nursing Educational Technology Group (SONET). The central website for staff at the University of Nottingham School of Nursing, who have an interest in e-learning in healthcare. The site also acts as a repository for released RLOs.
RLO FAQ. A simple 'primer' on Reusable Learning Objects (RLOs) on the SONET site, with links for further reading.
School of Nursing RLOs. All released RLOs developed by the School of Nursing are available from this section of the SONET site, which include basic browse and search facilities.
Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching for Reusable Learning Objects (RLO-CETL). The School is one of 3 partners in this organisation, funded by the UK Higher Education Funding Councils (HEFCE) for some £3 million over 5 years, and many SONET staff are actively engaged in RLO-CETL business. The other partners are London Metropolitan University (lead site) and Cambridge University. The site hosts a large number of RLOs produced by all 3 partners, stored in its learning object repository (Intralibrary, the same system as has recently been chosen for the NHS LO repository).
NHS Institute Improvement RLOs. Pre-release versions of the RLOs developed by the SONET team, under commission from the NHS Institute. This is a temporary location only, until the RLOs are released to the NHS.
Universities Collaboration in e-Learning (UCeL). The 'godmother' of RLOs for healthcare, at Cambridge University. Although to some extent superseded by the RLO-CETL, UCeL developed the pedagogical and developmental methodology adapted for use by both the RLO-CETL and SONET.
