Part of the Being Human Festival

What do games mean to us? Are they merely for enjoyment, or do they represent more - say, a distinctive kind of artwork, or a way of understanding the world? Philosophers of games are interested in asking these questions, and this event will invite you to make your own contribution to considering how we renew our relationship with games. Mostly, we'll be enjoying playing some board games, but we'll add something extra: ahead of time participants will get some extra content related to their game, either factual or fictional. After we've played, we'll have a discussion where we consider how the extra ideas we added to the games affected our experience, our enjoyment, or even our chances of winning! By the end we'll hopefully all have some new ideas about how games can enrich our lives.
