This spring, Green Hustle returns to Nottingham with fresh energy and exciting activities to celebrate community and sustainable living
The Green Hustle Festival is a celebration of life and creativity that aims to make our city greener, healthier and more connected.
Green Hustle is back this May with a free, one-day festival at Nottingham city centre, bringing thousands together to celebrate community, creativity, and climate action under the theme Growing Together. The event features live entertainment from Cultural Vibrations, dancers, circus acts, hands-on workshops, and a vibrant makers market showcasing local producers.
Whether it is planting activities, creative workshops, or simply relaxing with good food and music, there are plenty of ways for you to get involved. You don't have to book ahead; just show up!
Our involvement
The Institute for Policy and Engagement is proud to participate in this fantastic festival once again, and we are supporting this year in two key ways.
1. Come learn about how gardeners are helping with mapping urban biodiversity
Dr Samuel Booth, Teaching Associate at the School of Geography will be at the University of Nottingham’s stand at the Green Hustle Festival. Using fun and interactive methods, he will be showcasing insights from the Citizen-Monitoring of Urban Agriculture Biodiversity (CUAB) programme to participants.
This citizen science project explores how allotment gardening influences biodiversity and our connection to nature. Developed with community partners and Nottingham City Council, CUAB trains gardeners to collect ecological data using fun, accessible tools.
Dr Booth's showcase includes early findings from the St Ann’s Allotments pilot and an interactive 3D visualisation of the site using the Projected Augmented Relieve (PARM) model.
Be sure to stop by and discover how citizen science is bringing people, places, and the planet together in meaningful ways!
2. Share your thoughts on the journey to net zero!
How can we support growth while building a sustainable and inclusive economy in Nottingham? We invite you to come explore our big illustration and tell us what challenges or opportunities you see for making this transition fair and inclusive for everyone. Come and chat to us in ‘The Listen Inn’ talk tent!
Here you’ll find our friendly Public Engagement Ambassadors, University of Nottingham PhD students undertaking a paid placement with the Institute, gaining hands-on experience of public engagement. They’ll be sharing insights from our Sustainable Growth Assembly event, delivered in partnership with Green Hustle, encouraging you to add your voice to this vital conversation.
This year’s festival is something to look forward to as it unites creativity and climate action in the heart of Nottingham and we are really excited to once again by working with the Green Hustle team to support this fantastic festival! Look out for our team at the event.
