Chiasmatic Encounters: Body, Architectural Drawing, and Digital Image

ACT image december 6th

Guest speaker: Mohammad Moezzi

Abstract:

This presentation cast some lights upon the relationship between the human body, architectural
drawing, and digital images. It introduces the historical transition from drawing to digital image
as a phenomenon and its impact on broader dualistic concepts, such as real vs virtual, material
versus immaterial, precision vs ambiguity, original versus copy, and perception vs computation.
Drawing inspiration from Maurice Merleau-Ponty's "Phenomenology of Perception," the
presentation employs a hyperdialectical method, giving primacy to perceptual encounters. In this chiasmatic relationship, the boundaries between the body, drawing, and digital image are blurred.
The presentation also showcases the author's architectural drawings and digital images as
examples of these phenomenological explorations. These examples are integral components of the author's ongoing doctoral research at the University of Calgary in Canada, under the
supervision of Graham Livesey, Paul Emmons, and Marian Macken.

Biography:
