Rachel is a postdoctoral research fellow in the Ruminant Population Health group. She qualified as a veterinary surgeon from University of Cambridge in 2010 and completed her PhD at University of Warwick in molecular epidemiology of ovine footrot (2013-2017). Rachel worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at University of Warwick and University of Birmingham before joining the School of Veterinary Medicine and Science in 2021.
Rachel's main research interests are microbial communities, particularly the bacterial interactions involved in the initiation of polymicrobial diseases, and the application of advanced statistical and machine learning approaches to microbiome research.
Rachel's areas of expertise are molecular microbiology, epidemiology, data analysis including hierarchical models and machine learning, and ruminant health and welfare. She has experience of designing, conducting and analysing data from longitudinal studies and working with big data from next generation sequencing and precision livestock sensor technologies.
