Launch of the Saint Gobain Nottingham H.O.U.S.E.

Launch of the Saint Gobain Nottingham H.O.U.S.E. on 25th June 2014, by Nottingham H.O.U.S.E. Team at the Creative Energy Homes.

Designed and built by our students at the University of Nottingham’s Department of Architecture and Built Environment (DABE), the H.O.U.S.E (Home Optimising the Use of Solar Energy) is the result of academics, researchers and students from various DABE disciplines collaborating with a select group of industrial sponsors and specialist consultants. To date it is the UK’s only competing finalist in the International Solar Decathlon Europe competition.

This full-scale home is designed to the world’s most stringent design codes – The German Passivhaus Institute, UK Code for Sustainable Homes Level 6 (Zero-carbon), and is Lifetime Homes compliant and Secured by Design compliant. This is the first time all these codes have been combined within a house of this type - this in itself was a massive challenge, despite the fact that students designed and built this as part of their teaching and learning experience at The University of Nottingham. It was built using off-site construction methods consisting of eight fully prefabricated modules, in order to meet the on-site build time of 4 days. The fully functioning family home is now finished on-site at the Creative Energy Homes project.

Launch day 25th June
The day will start with the national meeting of the Buildoffsite Direction Group, followed by presentations and the official launch of the H.O.U.S.E., sponsored by Saint Gobain. There will also be an industry exhibition in a marquee in the DABE courtyard.

The Creative Energy Homes will then host a barbecue for the team that designed and built the H.O.U.S.E.

For more information follow the project on Facebook at www.facebook.com/CreativeEnergyHomes.

Attendance is by invitation only as numbers are limited, but if you have worked on the project and would like to attend, please contact Lauren Halstead – we would love to have everyone back!
