Biography

Dr Booth is a Clinical-Academic Neurological Physiotherapist. She is an Associate Professor with the School of Medicine (Rehabilitation and Ageing; Injury, Inflammation & Recovery Sciences AU3). She has a split role with Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) NHS Trust as the Associate Chief AHP for Research & Innovation where she supports the capacity and capability development of clinical-academic and research careers in the AHP workforce. She continues to practice clinically as a Physiotherapist within neurological rehabilitation, specifically on the Stroke hyper-acute and acute wards at NUH. She is currently the Research Workstream Lead for the National Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) project at UoN and chairs the NRC PPI Network, working alongside public contributors and colleagues from the University and NUH NHS Trust to realise the research ambition of this nationally important programme.

Dr Booth qualified as a Physiotherapist in 2005 and specialised in Neurology in 2008, working across different neurological rotations and patient groups within Nottinghamshire. She was one of the first cohort of NIHR-funded Master's Fellowships (2009-10, UoN) and completed her PhD (2014-17, UoN) through a Clinical Training Fellowship with the Alzheimer's Society, "Gait, Falls, and Rehabilitation in Mild Cognitive Impairment". She has been involved in the NIHR Programme Grant, "Promoting Activity, Independence and Stability in people with Early Dementia and Mild Cognitive Impairment" (PrAISED, 2016-23) since its inception.

She recently completed an NIHR/HEE ICA Clinical Lectureship (now called the Advanced Clinical Academic Fellowship) to pursue her clinical-academic career aspirations and research interests in rehabilitation and exercise in complex neurological patients using realist methods of enquiry. Her project, "Personalisation of exercise for people with dementia: What works for whom, under what circumstances and why?" used mixed methods and reflects her research skills in complex intervention development, realist methods of enquiry, and systematic reviews. She leads the @NottsRealism special interest group in realist research methods at UoN and has a growing portfolio of research grants where this expertise is utilised.

Dr Booth has supported a number of MSc, MPhil, PhD and post-doctoral researcher through her joint roles. She established the East Midlands hub of the Council of AHPs in Research (CAHPR) in 2018 and was co-lead until 2024. She is on the Editorial Board of the Advances in Rehabilitation Science and Practice journal (2022-current) and a panel member for the NIHR DSE Awards (2023-current).
