CoSpaces

The CoSpaces project brings together industrial, research and business partners from across Europe to develop innovative collaborative working solutions that are responsive to industrial needs in the 21st century. These solutions are to be developed with, and validated against, the aerospace, automotive and construction sectors.

CoSpaces explores how advanced technologies including virtual reality, augmented reality, tele-immersive interfaces, mobile technologies, context-awareness and web services can be deployed to create human-centric collaborative workspaces for supporting product design, assembly/construction and maintenance activities. The project aims to create an underlying configurable and dynamic software framework that will support easy creation of Collaborative Working Environments (CWE) for teams involved in design and engineering tasks, adaptable to suit the user(s) and their context, empowering workers both as individuals and in their respective teams.

Project researchers and industrial end-users are taking a holistic approach, with a strong focus on human factors, to the design, evaluation and implementation of collaborative technologies. This requires a detailed understanding of the multiplicity of factors inherent in collaboration. Additionally, the project is uncovering and addressing real-world constraints and barriers to the uptake of collaborative technologies, bridging the gap between industrial engineers and scientific researchers.
