Location:

Description
In this seminar PhD student Annabel Wearing Smith will discuss her research into Virago Press between 1973 and 1999, focusing on the benhind the scenes of Virago publishing Angela Carter, Maya Angelou and Margaret Atwood. Annabel's research asks how Virago's concern with its own place in history signifies their transition from publishers of emergent feminist work to purveyors of the dominant discourse of feminism, and how by changing the way history was conceived, they made it. Part of her work focuses on the impact Angela Carter, Maya Angelou and Margaret Atwood had upon the press.
