A large part of my group's research is investigating factors which lead to poor recovery post-stroke, such as age and infection; and on the mechanisms underlying post-stroke recovery. Part of this research is carried out on clinical data in collaboration with Prof. Philip Bath, Stroke Professor at the University of Nottingham. In parallel to this we are examining ways to improve modeling of stroke in rodents, to improve welfare and increase the translational potential of the models. As such I am co-founder and co-organiser of the UK Preclinical Stroke Symposium. I am also a member of the National Centre for the Replacement, Refinement and Reduction of Animals in Research (NC3Rs) working group on animal models of stroke.
