A Stroke Lay Conference led by Ossie Newell, MBE, had been very successful and received positive feedback from lay participants who would like more lay conferences in the future. Professor Marion Walker states: “Involving and developing a wider support network for lay people and associated consumer groups is imperative, and any questions surrounding the sustainability of these groups need answering”
Mr Newell, MBE is a Stroke Ambassador who works closely with Prof Walker on stroke rehabilitation research projects. He is joint chair of the Nottingham Stroke Research Consumer Group which was formed in November 2004 as an independent partnership organisation of Stroke Researchers from the University of Nottingham and stroke survivors and their carers. The Stroke Lay Conference was held on 29th July at the East Midlands Conference Centre.
