Sustainable Process Technologies Research Group

BBSRC-funded PhD studentships

Funded PhD opportunities are available with the research group, and are either advertised directly by the academic/faculty or through an innovative integrated four-year BBSRC-funded Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) devised by The University of Nottingham, in collaboration with Rothamsted Research. The DTP provides PhD students with a world-class training programme in Biotechnology and the Biological Sciences and is supported by nearly £6m from the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council. Industrial Biotechnology and Bioenergy is one of the three main research areas that the DTP programme focuses on with example projects including:

  • Bioproduction of styrene – towards bio-based polymers
  •  Evaluating the influence of complex process environments on biocatalyst activity
  •  S-Adenosyl methionine, a radical solution for high value biorefinery outputs
  • Biohydrogen production from brewing waste water via anaerobic fermentation- Artificial enzymes for organic reactions
  • Processing valuable products from renewable biomass feedstocks
  • Evaluating antimicrobial resistance in dairy farming: Understanding real world interactions and the role of enzymes

Eligibility for DTP studentships is restricted to UK and EU applicants. A wide range of other funded opportunities are also available.
