Biography
Dr Matthew Grainge achieved his BSc in Statistics at Reading University and his MSc in Medical Statistics at the University of Leicester, before going on to complete his PhD on the topic of cervical screening and human papillomavirus at the University of Nottingham.

Current Research
My role involves the application of novel statistical and methodological approaches to address real world problems encountered by the NHS and other healthcare decision makers. My principal research activity involves use of electronic health datasets to carry out research in the clinical areas of rheumatology, haematology, oncology, gastroenterology and rare disease epidemiology. Specific examples are::
- Using prospective data from electronic health datasets to identify transient risk factors for venous thromboembolism (VTE) in high risk groups (e.g. people with cancer, pregnant women and inflammatory bowel disease patients)
- Risk prediction (prognostic) modeling
- Cancer screening, chemoprevention and early diagnosis.
