I retired from my Post as Professor of Medicine in December 2019. I continue as Editor-in-Chief of Diabetes, Obesity & Metabolism, which is an international journal of pharmacology & therapeutics (Impact Factor 6.1, published by Wiley). Previously I was a member of College Council, Royal College of Physician of Edinburgh, and Divisional Medical Director, Derby Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation trust. My clinical & Academic interests are in Diabetes, Cardiovascular Endocrinology & Therapeutics.
I am External Examiner for the MSc in Internal Medicine, University of Edinburgh.

I was the principal architect & academic lead for the establishment of Nottingham's successful 4-year graduate-entry medical course in 2003. I was Associated Dean & Head of School in Derby through to 2013. My interests are in Medical Education, postgraduate medical training & widening access to Medicine.
