Influenced by youth juries organised by our researchers, the UK’s Age Appropriate Design Code is set to become law in the next few months. It will introduce a principle-based approach to children’s data protection. We have made the resources that facilitated these discussions open access for use in schools.

What next?

We recommend that the UK’s Age Appropriate Design Code is extended to protect all minors, not just under 13s. This will challenge the status quo in which millions of young people aged 13-17 receive almost no specific data protection during some of the most vulnerable years of their life.
