Medicine (A100) - What you need to do before you arrive

1

Sign your student agreement

You must sign this student agreement before starting the course.

  • The agreement acts as a formal declaration on your behalf to demonstrate that you are aware of School of Medicine protocol.
  • It will also act as evidence that you have been transparent with any issues that may affect your fitness to practice medicine.
2

Complete DBS Check and Occupational Health Check

Your offer is conditional upon you successfully completing additional fitness to practice checks.

You'll also need to complete Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance and have an Occupational Health check.

You should have already received communications with guidance on how to complete your DBS check.

You should have also received a communication from Optima  Health, with full details and a link to complete a questionnaire.

3

Read Professionalism and Fitness to Practise documents

As a medical student and doctor, you'll be expected to behave in a way that justifies the trust of patients and their loved ones.

Please read the following documents to ensure you understand what is expected of you.

4

Make sure you have suitable clothes in your wardrobe

While studying medicine you'll work in many different environments. You are expected to dress appropriately in all of them. However, there is a specific dress code for working in clinical environments.

To meet the dress code, you must be:

  • smart but comfortable and have clothes which allow your arms to be bare below the elbow (like a shirt or blouse and trousers or a dress and flat shoes)
  • not wearing revealing clothes or those featuring inappropriate slogans
  • avoiding jewellery on your hands and wrists
