Visiting a gold bullion vault for the Periodic Table of Videos was a privilege and seeing all those gold bars was enormously impressive – 5.8 million YouTube views and counting! – but a little sad. Gold is an exciting element with interesting chemistry but here were all these gold bars, sitting there inert, rather than doing exciting reactions. It reminded me of a mausoleum.
