How to donate

There are many ways you can donate:

Single or Regular donations

This can either be single donations, regular (e.g. monthly) donations or gifts in kind.

The nature of your gift and the amount you are able to give is not the most important thing. What is important is your support.

If you are a UK tax payer don’t forget to Gift Aid your donation.

If you would like to speak to somebody about your gift please contact the Campaign Office.

Giving from overseas

Alumni and supporters who pay tax overseas are eligible for tax deductions on any gifts they make to the University.

Gifts from America should be made to The Friends of The University of Nottingham: America, Inc ─ a Private Charitable Foundation under American law (Tax Employer Identification Number (EIN) 13-3619622). These gifts are tax deductible to the maximum amount allowed under US law, which applies to gifts of cash, shares and property, made either now or in your Will. Tax-deductible contributions from US corporate matching gifts programmes will also be accepted. Please send the relevant documents with your donation.

For more information please email John Kingham, Treasurer of The Friends of The University of Nottingham: America Inc., or contact him by telephone on 215-493-5143 or in writing at:

Tax efficient giving

The University of Nottingham has exempt charitable status (reference X15294), which means we can reclaim the basic rate of tax on your donations at no extra cost to you. It makes your giving go further.

If you pay higher rate tax, you can claim the difference between the higher rate of tax (40 per cent) and the basic rate of tax (20 per cent) on the total (gross) value of your donation to the University.

So if you donate £100, the total value of your donation including Gift Aid is £125 - so you can claim back 20 per cent of this (£25) for yourself. You can make this claim on your Self Assessment tax return if you receive one.

For more information visit the HM Revenue & Customs website or email the Campaign Office Finance Officer.

Leaving a legacy in your Will

Legacy gifts are a wonderful way to show your support for the University's long term future.

Gifts from the estates of alumni, former staff and friends help all aspects of the University and provide a tax efficient vehicle for giving to charitable organisations, such as The University of Nottingham, in the UK.

If you have made provisions in your Will to donate to us please let us know.

If you would like more information please contact Simon Buttenshaw in the Campaign Office.
