RLO: SI Units

Summary

You can print this page for your own records, as a summary of the main points in this RLO.

The SI system defines a range of standard units for the measurement of time (second), length (metre), Electrical current (Ampere), mass (gram), Light intensity (Candela), Amount of a substance (Mole) and temperature (Kelvin). From this a range of commonly used units such as litres, pascals and volts can be derived.  SI units have a standard range of prefixes that allow abbreviation of very large and very small values.  Values can be converted to these abbreviations by simple division or multiplications in 10s, 100s or 1000s.
