WebCT User Guides

Below are some guides on basic operations in WebCT. All are in PDF format, and most are designed to be short and sweet crib sheets for printing and reference.

Action Menu tools. How to enable student tools at the top of pages, using Learning Modules
Adding learning resources (files) using WebCT File Manager. How to correctly upload files to your course, and create links to the files in Course Content view. Please read this!!
Announcements. How to add announcements which will appear when the students log in to your course.
Discussion fora. Setting up discussion boards and topics.
File Management. A few FAQs on managing files, such as copying from one course to another and using 'power view' to rearrange folders and links.
Folders. Moving one folder into another.
Icons. How to change icons for folders and lnks, and how to set the default icons for a course.
Learning Modules. What are Learning Modules, and what uses do they have?
Selective release. How to restrict items in a course by date, users or user groups.
Student Notepad and Journal. How these note-taking tools can be enabled for students for reflective activities.
User groups. How to create and maintain user groups, useful if you want, say, to restrict a discussion forum to a particular level.
WebDAV: file management outside WebCT. If you regularly up/download files to/from a course, WebDAV allows a quick and easy, though potentially dangerous, way of doing so outside of WebCT using drag and drop. This is a longer document than others on this page.
Web Links. Creating and maintaining a library of web links in a course.
Web pages. How to edit them in WebCT.

Aberdeen user guides

Another excellent source of user guides is the WebCT Documentation at the University of Aberdeen, with plenty of PDF and Word tutorials and 'quick start' sheets.
