Biography

Mohamed joined the School of Economics as an Associate Lecturer (Teaching and Research). His primary research interests are fiscal policy, macro-financial linkages, and applied econometrics. His secondary interests include public economics and the political economy of the Middle East. He is developing a research agenda on fiscal policy, firm-level responses in public economics, and macro-financial dynamics, combining macroeconomic modelling with micro-level data analysis, and has a growing record of publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Mohamed answers macroeconomic questions using both aggregate and micro-level data. For example, his 2025 working paper "Micro-Level Analysis of Exchange Rate Pass-Through" (with Hany Abdel-Latif) studies firm-level responses to exchange rate shocks. He also develops structural models, including DSGE-based approaches, to evaluate fiscal and monetary policy transmission.

Before joining Nottingham, Mohamed held teaching positions at Queen Mary University of London and City, University of London, where he also earned his PhD in Economics.

He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and has extensive teaching and supervision experience across macroeconomics, econometrics, and international economics. His expertise spans DSGE modelling, econometric forecasting, and policy evaluation, bridging academic research and policy applications.

Mohamed has international experience working with academic and policy institutions. He has undertaken professional training with the International Monetary Fund, including courses on fiscal policy, monetary interactions in DSGE models, and macroeconometric forecasting.
