Total Denial', directed by journalist Milena Kaneva, tells the story of human-rights abuses committed by the Burmese military on behalf of Unocal, an American oil company laying a pipeline there. For five years, Kaneva followed the story of 15 Burmese villagers who sued the giant corporation in a California court, leading to the landmark Alien Tort Statute case Doe v. Unocal. As the case unfolds the story follows legendary young activist Ka Hsaw Wa in his clandestine treks through the Burmese jungles, gathering case evidence and eye witness testimony of widespread forced relocations, murder, rape and slave labour. The film also offers a fantastic insight into the Burmese military regime and its ongoing suppression of democratic movements.
A limited number of tickets will be on sale for the upcoming Broadway screenings, which begin next week with Taking Liberties, March 5th at 5.45pm.
