I also teach on various clinical skills modules in each year of the course along with specialist classes covering de-escalation skills for working with people in distress. I also get the opportunity to teach on courses outside of nursing including introducing mental health needs and care to BSc Midwifery 2nd year students as part of their Perinatal Mental Health module.
My area of specialism in teaching is in LGBTQIA+ health, particularly the mental health inequalities faced by transgender people. Current Research
I have completed a Masters in Research Methods at UoN, graduating in 2023. As part of this degree, I completed a research project investigating the potential benefits of interactive e-learning in Student Nurse education about LGBTQ+ health. This project targeted the knowledge, skills, confidence and cultural competence of Student Nurses and has informed my teaching and future research project proposals
I have also completed longitudinal research on the impacts of Covid-19 on trans and gender non-conforming young people in the UK. This work was published in 2021.
Since 2020, I have been part of a research advisory group for a study by Dr Lisa Wood at KCL, where the feasibility of CBTp for acute mental health facilities is being studied. In this role I have used my clinical experience of nursing in acute mental health care to contribute to a co-production group advising the researcher.
I am currently in the process of designing my PhD research proposal
