Biography
Dr Emma Adams is an Assistant Professor in Health Promotion and Public Health and Research Staff Champion in the School of Health Sciences. She graduated from the University of Nottingham with a BSc (Hons) Biology (1996) and subsequently obtained an MSc in Physical Activity and Health (2004) and a PhD in Physical Activity and Public Health (2018) from Loughborough University. Emma's PhD focussed on understanding the individual, psychosocial and environmental factors influencing transport-related walking and evaluating the implementation and effectiveness of walking interventions in community and workplace settings.
During her time at the University of Nottingham Emma has worked as a Research Fellow on the SCALES (Structured Conversations About Lifestyle in Emergency Settings) project, and as a Senior Research Fellow on the PrAISED (Promoting Activity, Independence and Stability in Early Dementia) study, acting as Programme Manager and leading the PrAISED Implementation sub-study.
Prior to joining the University of Nottingham, Emma worked as a Senior Researcher at Loughborough University (2004-2020) on the development, implementation and evaluation of interventions to promote physical activity and health in workplace, community and healthcare settings. During this time she was involved with leading the evaluation of several national physical activity promotion projects, working closely with external stakeholders from the physical activity, sport and health sectors. Emma led and taught modules at undergraduate and post graduate level on physical activity and health promotion.
