Biography
Sofia Anna Altisent is a mental health researcher and member of the Recovery Research Team, based at the Nottingham Institute of Mental Health. Her research project explores cross-cultural experiences of mental health recovery narratives (MHRNs) and self-compassion. She uses qualitative methodology to explore how MHRNs impact self-compassion.
Sofia's first degree was in International Relations at Sussex University. She has always been fascinated by the power of storytelling. She has travelled internationally supporting people to tell their stories in her roles as a researcher, teacher and writer in areas including the Middle East, Europe and Canada. She has also worked with Deaf communities globally.
She later earned an MSc in Psychology at Sheffield Hallam University. She has clinical experience in various settings in health and social care including supporting those with complex mental health needs, neurodivergence, dementia, women experiencing violence and refugees.
Her research interests include mental health in underserved communities and nature connectedness.
