Thinking about a change

Have you been working for a couple of years? Are you considering changing your career direction, or looking to progress in your current career?

It is not uncommon for people to change career direction - we probably know someone who was working in industry and has now moved into teaching.

Do you think you are looking for a complete change of direction or are you feeling unsettled with your current employer or role?

Here are some questions that might help you to clarify your situation.

Why do you feel unsettled?

Before you take action, it is a good idea to consider the reasons why you feel unsettled in your current position.

Questions you might want to ask yourself are:

  • Does the job match my skills and interests?
  • Am I utilising my skills and abilities fully?
  • Will moving to another team make a difference?
  • Will changing employer make a difference?
  • Am I looking for extra responsibility?
  • Do I want a promotion with my current employer, or with another company?
  • Do I want to be my own boss?
