The pragmatics of achieving impact often seem difficult to achieve, evidence and measure. Yet demonstrating the reach and significance of your impact is vital for a successful REF submission.

This engaging afternoon event will showcase outstanding examples of research impact in the social sciences with the opportunity to hear about different types of impact for a broad range of stakeholders. The session will also include a Q&A Panel, presentation on evidence gathering and a facilitated interactive session on evaluating impact.

Suitable for academic, research and professional staff interested in impact at any career stage.


Draft programme:

12:00-12:45pm: Lunch in the Cloisters

12:45pm: Welcome from Professor Todd Landman, Pro-Vice Chancellor

1:00pm: Introduction from Cheryl Brand and Presentations of excellent REF impact case studies:

  • Associate Professor Shaun French (Geography)
  • Professor Olympia Bekou (Law)
  • Associate Professor Andrew Mumford (Politics and IR)
  • Professor Howard Stevenson (Education)

2:15pm: Q&A Panel Session (with afternoon coffee and cake)

2:45pm: Presentation from Dr Chris Mellor on collecting evidence

3:15pm: Evaluating your impact - Presentation and facilitated session by Professor Justin Waring

4:25pm: Concluding comments (Professor Todd Landman)

4:30pm: Ends
