Step 6:
Twist the green tip of the lancet one-quarter turn, and pull if off, then press the open end of the lancet to the cleaned side of your thumb.
Step 7:
Press the button on the top of the lancet – it will click and you can then put it down.
Step 8:
Massage your hand and thumb to get a large blood droplet to appear.
Step 9:
Pick up the white stick and dip the white tip into the blood drop, until it goes completely red.
Step 10:
Put the stick down (stand it on its end) to let the blood dry.
Step 11:
Put the plaster over the puncture site. You may want to wipe off any excess blood from your thumb with a tissue before using the plaster.
Scan and drop
Step 12:
Using a phone*, tablet or laptop with a camera, visit https://uniofnottm.sharepoint.com/sites/BloodSampleRegistration
*If you are using an iPhone, before you scan the barcode on the tube, you must disable ‘Cross Site Tracking’ by going to Settings > Safari > (Privacy & Security) Prevent Cross Site Tracking – turn to off.
Step 13:
Place the stick back into the tube and screw on the top.
Step 14:
Put everything back in the bag and drop your sample into the collection box. The collection box is near your hall’s welcome point. If you are self-isolating, a collection will be arranged from outside your door.
There is no need to scan the sample at the drop-off point. Your sample is now successfully checked in and will shortly be winging its way to the University of Nottingham’s Biodiscovery Institute where the testing will be taking place!
Results and action
Once we receive your sample, the results of your antibody test will take six weeks and will be sent direct to your email. Support, advice and links to University and government guidance will be provided by the testing service team in all results communications.
